What Gets Better With Age? A Philosophical Essay on Experience, Writing, and Wisdom

Image
The Little Prince With this short essay, I am considering for the first time to write about a topic regularly suggested by the WordPress writing site; it will be an experimental endeavor, equivalent to the speed of thought, as it is a kind of first and only one-session structured text for me. Therefore, this essay can be seen as a simple "discussion note" or a kind of "exercise in thinking by writing". The Act of Writing: A Path to Understanding For most people, writing is considered to be a behaviour that is not felt to be lacking, moreover, it is considered to be a behaviour that is not resorted to "unless it is forced". So much so that we may have known people who have never gone beyond writing short notes and scribbles throughout our lives. Such people do not write a single line except for the assignments "imposed" on them during their school years, and when they are "forced" to do so, they get downright bored, as if they were burd...

The Guest Boy: A Memoir of War, Trauma, and Childhood

Image
For all children.  I wish they grow up in a world full of peace, tranquility and love. Childhood is said to be the most beautiful years of life. I remember that this is how Leon Trotsky began one of his  books.  (2022). It must be a true statement; if we think of human life as a whole, the first years of our lives are as irresponsible, free, and loving as possible. Is it only “irresponsible” or “sheltered” that makes our childhood so powerful? For example, are there not children who grow up alone or without a family? Don’t children who are unprotected or irresponsible, who, for example, start selling chewing gum or polishing shoes at an early age, or who have to work in the car industry in filth and rust, remember those years with similarly intense feelings, sometimes with tears in their eyes? How well this applies, for example, to the great writer Maksim Gorky (2014) … In my opinion, there must be other things that make that period of one’s childhood special. Things r...

What Russian Generals Are Reading? -I

Image
I recently read an article which, in my opinion, provides important indicators. This article was published on the Russia Today website. The title of the article was What Russian Generals Are Rea ding? . This ambitious title was inviting and I accepted the invitation and read the article. According to it, the Russian generals have carefully analyzed the disintegration of the Soviet Union . They seem to be far from accepting that this disintegration was due to internal causes. Therefore, they emphasized the "external dynamics". As a result, they seem to have defined a new and different strategy. The essence of this strategy lies in a broader understanding of war, taking it out of its purely conventional and nuclear context. In my opinion, its strengths and weaknesses can be briefly discussed. In identifying its strengths, I should first point out those points in the Soviet Union's conception of the war which, in my opinion, were both right and wrong. To identify these, we ...

Reflections on a Strange "Analyst" Controversy

Image
In the last few days, I have read some interesting articles in some media, asking a ridiculous question like "who is the better analyst and who can be trusted". Those who try to answer this question are, in my opinion, "unnecessarily" ironizing each other. Man is a thinking being, and everyone must first trust his own judgment. Who should I trust is a special kind of question that has the privilege of being funnier than its answer. First of all, let me say that I do not consider myself an "analyst" and I am comfortable with that. I have no great "pretensions" in life, nor do I have any in this field. I am just a person who tries to keep a close eye on international developments and, like any reasonable person, is concerned about things like war, regional conflicts, or nuclear threats. Although I have academic degrees, I do not use them unless it is mandatory. Mandatory situations are; writing scientific books or articles, creating professional pr...

The Symbolism of Joy in Chagall’s ‘Bateau Mouche"

Image
Marc Chagall 's 39 x 30 cm color lithograph Bateau-Mouche with Bouquet was created in 1963 . The term " Bateau-Mouche " is a well-known name for the classic tourist boats that cruise along the Seine River in Paris. In this piece, the painter's fantastic world and surreal colors fully envelop the viewer. The unmistakable style and well-deserved reputation of Chagall combine to create a truly unique and joyful atmosphere. A Classic Chagall Composition This is a classic Chagall because so many of his signature themes are present. The blues, the recognizable Paris skyline , the flowers, and other floating figures transport the viewer into a vivid fantasy world that beautifully captures the romantic and dreamy essence of Paris. The vivid hues of the flowers underscore the painting's central idea of joy and love, while the famous Parisian landmarks anchor the work in a specific cultural context. The painting allows the viewer to get a taste of Parisian life while ...
