What is a Superpower Today? Part II: Ideological and Theoretical Dimension
In the first part of this article on the concept of superpower, it was mentioned that what the concept actually means is ambiguous. It was argued that the concept of Superpower, which in the twentieth century referred to a kind of "capacity for total annihilation", has become ambiguous with the collapse of the bipolar world order. This claim was made with reference to the thinker George Friedman. The world-historical developments at the end of the last century have actually caused many concepts to become ambiguous or undergo a shift in meaning. It is possible to argue that habits of thinking have also changed rapidly with this process. Radical debates have also emerged in international relations and political philosophy. For example, the tri-polar understanding of the world established in the twentieth century has lost its validity.
