Inauguration Day Jitters and Global Unease In the period preceding today's presidential inauguration in the United States of America , my emotions, like those of the rest of the world, are both strong and complex. This intensity is accompanied by a sense of unease. Anxiety is the result of uncertainty, and today's world is dominated by it. It is inappropriate to discuss political developments in terms of individuals. Such misguided tendencies stem from a lack of understanding of political developments or a failure to propose an alternative to them. Contemporary populism and the leader-oriented politics of the conservative political tradition also play an important role in this. I have two main concerns, neither of which relates to Donald Trump's "personality".
